Have you ever noticed how much easier it is to hear God when your mind is clear and your body feels good? I have. And let me tell you—our spiritual clarity is often tied more closely to our physical health than we realize. One of the most beautiful (and often overlooked) ways to position ourselves to hear God more clearly is through the food we choose to nourish our bodies with.
Your Body Is a Temple
Scripture reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19 that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Think about that—God has chosen you as His dwelling place. That truth alone should shift how we see our relationship with food. We’re not just eating for energy or to stay full. We’re eating to support the temple where God’s Spirit resides.
When our bodies are weighed down with processed foods, excess sugar, or poor nutrition, we’re more likely to feel sluggish, foggy, and disconnected. It’s hard to sit in quiet stillness and discern His voice when your body is in chaos.
But when we feed ourselves with living, nutrient-rich foods—those things that God Himself placed on the earth—we create space for clarity, energy, and stillness. Our minds become sharper. Our hearts more open. Our spirits more in tune.
Clarity Through Clean Living
I remember a time when I was in prayer one day, I noticed I was spiritually blocked . But no matter how much I prayed, I felt like I was pressing into fog. One day, I felt led to fast to deny my flesh and not make my appetite god.
So I did. As a result, I began cutting back on heavy, overly processed meals and introduced more whole foods—greens, fruits, and lean proteins. It wasn’t a diet. It was an act of devotion. Within days, my energy improved, my thoughts became clearer, and that heaviness lifted. I began to feel His presence stronger, and His whispers became louder.
Food and Focus
Science even backs this up. Certain foods like leafy greens, berries, nuts, and healthy fats are known to support brain health and mood. But more than the science, there’s a spiritual principle here: When we care for our bodies, we honor God—and that honor opens us up to deeper intimacy with Him.
Think of Daniel. He and his friends chose a simple, clean diet out of obedience to God—and they came out stronger, wiser, and more full of understanding than those who feasted at the king’s table (Daniel 1:8-17). That’s not just a history lesson—that’s a blueprint for us today.
An Invitation to Nourish
So, beloved, this isn’t about rules or restrictions—it’s about relationship. What we eat can either serve as a distraction or a doorway. Let your meals become an offering. Let your nourishment be worship.
When we nourish our bodies with intention, we quiet the noise. We slow down. And in that stillness, we make room to hear the One who loves us most.
Let’s continue to nourish our bodies and our souls—together.
With love,
Leah Elizabeth
